Pop farts
After a long Summer hiatus [which means break... I looked it up] I'm back with a new feature called 'Pop farts'. It's basically just me musing about things that have caught my eye in the world of pop culture of late. It may include movie news, reviews or any other random stupidity. In other words, what I normally blog about.
-
COMING SOON TO DVD
-
September 30th we get some "Iron" in our diets as John Favreau's Summer blockbuster 'Iron Man' hits stores.
-
October 14th brings the release of two titles of interest.
-
'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' - Relive the soul crushing disappointment in the comfort of your own home!
-
Special features include "How to ruin a franchise" - Master storywrecker George Lucas shows you how he destroyed two of the most iconic franchises in cinema history. - "It's all just a big bag of shit" - Go behind the scenes for the making of 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'. - "Polishing a turd" - Follow the post production process as Steven Spielberg and company put the finishing touches on the film - "Regurgitation: Scoring 'The Crystal Skull' " - Join John Williams and the London Symphony orchestra as they try to drown out the dialog from the film. - Rated PG-13 for scenes of intense CGI monkey business, atomic refrigerators and Shia LaBeouf.
-
'Silverhawks: Season 1, Volume 1' - The classic 80's cartoon finally makes it's debut on DVD.
-
QUICK MOVIE REVIEWS
-
'Never back down' - Typical 'Karate Kid' clone, but updated for a new generation [so get ready for shitty music, lesbian make out scenes and guys with their shirts off]. There really isn't anything resembling real drama or emotion here, which would be forgivable if it at least entertained on a superficial level, which it doesn't. Even the fights are lame. Only Cam Gigandet as the villain really rises above the material. - 3.5/10
-
'Spacehunter: Adventures in the forbidden zone' - I caught this early 80's B sci-fi flick for the first time since I watched it on Cinemax back when it debuted. Rambling and often incoherent [like my blog] the film does have a few saving graces. The legs of tragically underused android "Chalmers", Michael Ironside as the villain "Overdog" [I know, I know] and... that's about it. Best remembered for being one of Molly Ringwald's earliest appearances and for originally being in 3-D [as seemingly every bad movie in 1983 was. Maybe it was a law]. - 3.5/10

NEW MUSIC
-
I feel about new music the way Indiana Jones feels about snakes "I hate 'em, Jock!". But one of my favorite bands, 'Oasis', has a new album coming out and their new single 'Shock of the lightning' from the album 'Dig out your soul' is fantastic.

THE IDIOT BOX: NEW 'KNIGHT RIDER' DEBUTS
-
If you thought the movie was bad... you were right. And the show isn't any better I'm afraid. This thing is a mis-fire on every level. Not even nostalgia can hold it together. I'd rather go to Jiffy Lube and watch them perform oil changes for an hour than watch this again. - 2/10
-
That's it for now. I'll likely continue to refine this 'Pop farts' format, so hang with me!
Labels: Humor, Pop culture, Pop farts

As you've said to me many a time, "Ouch, babe."

I wonder if there's going to be a feature on the INDY 4 dvd were we see how long Spielberg and Lucas argue over a plot point until Spielberg throws his arms in the air, shouts "F**k it!", and just does whatever Lucas wants. All while Ford dozes in the background, Shia obsessively works over his lines, and Karen Allen starts asking when she actually gets to do something.

Silverhawks!

Now we just need to see NEVER BACK DOWN: ADVENTURES IN THE FORBIDDEN ZONE.
Speaking of Molly Ringwald, wouldn't it be great to get her and John Hughes back together in a decade to make 50 CANDLES? Just think of the possibilities ...
- -
I actually flipped over to the KNIGHT RIDER pilot when it reran on Friday, but blanched and quickly changed the channel when I saw Bruce Davison's hair.
You'd be better off with CHUCK.
- -
Looks like the start of a fun new feature, man. Keep it up.
'50 candles', lol! Great. And would you believe that Ringwald is publicly pressing Hughes to make a sequel to said flick? Because honesty there's still so much more story to tell there...
----
I probably should watch 'Chuck', but my fear of commitment to women is superceded only by my fear of commitment to TV shows.
----
Thanks. I'm going to keep working on it but I think this bite-sized format is just what I needed to spark the 'ol creativity.
If anybody can wring some more material out of the CANDLES saga, it's John Hughes. Sadly, he seems content with his retirement.

CHUCK is light and fluffy entertainment that would hit you in just the right spot. And it's largely a status-quo show, so you can drop in any time. Granted, I know you're stuck on that Monday Night Football ...
(subtle incentive)
I'm not even gonna try and spell her name, but wow what a hottie. Almost enough to get me to stop watching football. Almost.
